The Carlyle Mudcats 14U baseball team dropped to 2-3 after a 9-3 loss to the Pinckneyville Pride.
Pinckneyville scored two runs in the first inning and one run in the second inning to take a 3-0 lead. Carlyle scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning and one run in the bottom of the fourth inning to tie the game 3-3. Pinckneyville scored six runs in the top of the fifth inning.
Jon Schmitt had a hit and scored two runs. Timothy Schilbe doubled and scored a run. Ethan Brinkmann had a hit.
Melvin Towell pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing seven runs — three earned — on five hits with three strikeouts.
The Mudcats host JCLL Elite at 6 p.m. Thursday in what everyone hopes will be a much warmer night.
