Eight Clinton County junior high golfers qualified out of the Southern Illinois Junior High School Athletic Association regional at Red Hawk Golf Course in Tamaroa to the state finals.
The top 10 girls and top 15 boys qualified for the state finals. The top seven earned medals.
Carlyle Junior High School seventh-grader Ava Meyer was medalist in the girls meet with a 39. Meyer and Trico’s Whitney Lovel both had 39s. Meyer beat Lovel in a scorecard playoff. Carlyle Junior High School eighth-grader Addie Gansauer was third with a 45. Carlyle Junior High School eighth-grader Meghan Edwards was fourth with a 47. Carlyle Junior High School eighth-grader Abby Steinkamp was sixth with a 50.
In the boys meet, Carlyle Junior High School seventh-grader Gannon Meyer was second with a 41. Waltonville’s Brendan Klingler was medalist with a 36. Carlyle Junior High School eighth-grader Ethan Wheelan was eighth with a 46. Bartelso’s Matt Gerdes was 11th with a 50. Bartelso’s Dawson Kreke was 12th with a 50. The cutoff for the top 15 advancing to state was a 51. Carlyle Junior High School eighth-grader Zack Persing had a 52 and Carlyle Junior High School seventh-grader Jax Johnson had a 53.
The state finals are May 10 at Rend Lake Golf Course.
