Ruth D. Márquez, age 90, of Highland, passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2021, at her daughter’s residence surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born September 8, 1930, in Trujillo alto, Puerto Rico, a daughter of the late Rafael Márquez Maldonado and Justina Viñas Castillo.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Luis F. Díaz, whom she married on July 3, 1954 at Out Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church in New York, and died on December 3, 2011 in Puerto Rico; her brother, Rafael Márquez; and a sister Myrna Márquez.
She is survived by her children, Jacqueline “Kiki” (Joseph) Seger of Highland and Suzette (Scott) Bouknight of Phoenix, AZ; her grandchildren, Annalise (Anthony) Elliott of Highland, Dr. Alexander Seger of Omaha, NE, Adam Seger of Highland, and Jennifer (Oscar) Vargas; her great-grandchildren, Ava Grace Elliott, Mateo Vargas, and Emme Vargas; her sister Doris Márquez of New York, and her sister-in-law, Barbara Márquez of Palm Beach, FL.
Ruth was a former member of the San Antonio and St. Dominic Catholic Churches and worked as a secretary for the Archdiocese of San Juan de Puerto Rico. She enjoyed crafting, cooking, and baking cakes in her free time.
There will be no services. A private interment at a later date will take place at Puerto Rico National Cemetery.
In lieu of plants, flowers or other gifts, memorials may be made to Mater Dei Catholic High School Foundation and will be received at Moss Funeral Home (535 N. 5th St. Breese, IL 62230), who is serving the family.
