Larry D. “Bill” Gass, age 83, of Trenton, passed away Friday, June 13, 2025, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 1, 1942, in Pinckneyville, a son of the late James and Mary (nee Preston) Gass.

 

Bill married Sharron Gass (nee Kemper) on October 28, 1966, in Belleville, and she survived in Trenton. In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by his sons, Bill (Buffi) Gass of O’Fallon and Robert (Eydi) Gass of Hoffman; grandchildren, Brian (Kate) Gass, Brandon Gass, Courtney Gass, Emma Gass, and Mandy Gabel; great-grandchildren, Dansby Gass, Camden Gass, Connor Gass, Caleb Rogers, Skyler Gabel, and Scarlett Earnhardt; sisters-in-law, Toni Gass of Marissa, Mary Diane White of Coulterville, Linda Spradling of O’Fallon, Lana Kemper of Tilden, and Robin Kemper of Smithton; and nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to Bill’s parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Florence (Eddie) Nesbitt, Dorothy (Virgil) Brawley, Joseph (Shirley) Gass, and James Gass; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lawrence and Mary (nee Berkeley) Kemper; and brothers-in-law, Lawrence Kemper, Jr. in infancy, Garry Kemper, Don Spradling, Richard Kemper, and Jack Kemper.

 

Throughout his life, Bill was a dedicated worker who began his career as a tower erector at Tower Electric, later worked at Stag Brewing on the dock and in the warehouse, and eventually retired from the O’Fallon School District 90, where he served in maintenance.

 

Outside of work, Bill was a man of many passions. He loved auto racing, fishing, golfing, and grilling, but his greatest joy came from spending time with his family. A true family man, he cherished every moment with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought him endless pride and happiness.

 

Bill’s life will be celebrated at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory, share stories, and celebrate the remarkable man he was.

 

Memorials in honor of Bill may be made to HSHS Home Care & Hospice and will be received by mail, Moss Funeral Home, 105 S. Main St. Trenton, IL 62293, who is serving the family.
