University employees rally for new contract

University of Illinois employees held a rally Wednesday, calling on university leadership to give them more pay. The employees, members of AFSCME Local 3700 and Local 698, are asking university administrators to settle what they are calling a “fair union contract.” Their previous agreement expired in September, and negotiations for a new contract have been going on for a year.

Kohl’s stores closing

Two Kohl’s stores in Illinois are among the two dozen that will be closing Saturday. The company previously announced in January that the stores would be closing by April, with Kohl’s confirming this week that the date was moved up to Saturday, March 29. The Kohl’s stores in Plainfield and West Dundee are among the 27 stores closing.

Soda recall

Thousands of cans of Coca-Cola are being recalled in Illinois and Wisconsin. Nearly 900 12-packs of Original Taste Coca-Cola are being recalled due to contamination with a foreign object. The cans came from a bottling plant in Milwaukee. On March 24, the Food and Drug Administration reclassified the recall as Class II, which is its second-highest risk classification.
