Pritzker called to testify over state’s sanctuary policies

Gov. J.B. Pritzker, along with the governors of Minnesota and New York, has been called to testify in May before the House Oversight Committee in its ongoing investigation into sanctuary jurisdictions and their effects on public safety.

In March, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson was one of several mayors of sanctuary cities who testified in a similar hearing.

According to the Congressional Budget Office, roughly 2.4 million immigrants per year entered the U.S. between 2021 and 2024 under the Biden administration.

Financial elderly abuse targeted

There is legislation in Springfield that aims to fight financial abuse against the elderly.

A bill filed by state Sen. Steve Stadelman looks to protect seniors from being financially exploited. The bill would give investment advisors the power to delay transactions if they suspect any red flag activities could result in seniors or people with disabilities being taken advantage of.

The Rockford Democrat said one in every five seniors has been a victim of these types of scams.

Record number of turkeys harvested

Illinois youth turkey hunters harvested a record number of birds during the 2025 season.

Hunters bagged 2,091 turkeys, which broke the previous record of 2,010 birds set during the 2024 season.

The top three counties for turkey harvesting were Jefferson, Pike, and Randolph counties.
