Comptroller suspends crematory’s license
Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza announced Monday her office has summarily suspended and filed a complaint to permanently revoke the license of Heights Crematory in Chicago Heights.
Her office said it is in response to violations documented by Illinois Office of Comptroller staff including improper storage of bodies, lying to the office’s auditors and failing to maintain records of the bodies brought in for cremation.
Pritzker matriarch dies at 101
Pritzker family matriarch Marian “Cindy” Pritzker has passed away at the age of 101. She was the wife of Hyatt Hotels founder Jay Pritzker and mother of their five children.
The Kenwood native was also the aunt of Gov. J.B. Pritzker and took him in at the age of 12 after his parents died. Cindy Pritzker was known for championing Chicago’s public libraries and architecture.
Farm Bureau gives rural grants
In an effort to elevate rural communities, Illinois Farm Bureau partnered with county Farm Bureaus to award 23 Rural Development Grants totaling $105,000 to support local projects across the state.
Of the grants awarded, eight are fulfilling rural emergency services needs and 15 are projects focused on economic or community development. Some of the recipients included Mt. Hope-Funks Grove Fire Protection District, the Montgomery County Emergency Management Agency and the Douglas County Economic Development Corporation.
