Dennis M. Essig, age 79, of St. Rose, passed away Monday, October 13, 2025, at Aviston Countryside Manor. He was born September 20, 1946, in Chicago, a son of the late Melvin and Margaret (nee Puttin) Essig.
Dennis married Donna (nee Tebbe) Essig on July 19, 1986, at St. Rose Catholic Church, and she survives in St. Rose. In addition to his wife, Dennis is survived by his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Connie Knebel of Highland, Eileen Reinacher of Grantfork, Doris Tebbe of Maryville, Leonard Tebbe of St. Rose, Nancy Harris of Hoffman Estates, Ronnie Tebbe of Highland, Gary Tebbe of St. Rose, Carol (Karl) Fife of Indiana, and Sharon “Susie” Tebbe of Tennessee; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Bob Knebel, Dennis Tebbe, Tom Reinacher, and Chuck Harris; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Arnold and Janeth (nee Essenpreis) Tebbe.
Dennis proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy. He spent his career as a skilled mechanic, working on railroads, automobiles, and small engines, and later as a Metro bus driver for many years.
A man of kindness, Dennis was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church and had a deep compassion for animals, especially in rescuing cats and dogs who needed a home.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, October 20, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Rose Catholic Church in St. Rose with Fr. Edward Schaefer presiding. Interment will follow at St. Rose Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday, October 20, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at St. Rose Catholic Church in St. Rose.
In lieu of flowers, plants, and other gifts, memorials may be made to the Clinton County Humane Society and will be received at the visitation or by mail at Moss Funeral Home, 535 N. 5th St., Breese, IL 62230, who is serving the family.
