Bridget D. Zimmerman, age 83, of Fairview Heights, and formerly of St. Rose, passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2026, at Memorial Hospital East in Shiloh. She was born November 14, 1942, in Breese, a daughter of the late Fred and Dorothea (nee Buehne) Schrage.

 

In addition to her parents, Bridget was preceded in death by her husband, Gary W. Zimmerman, whom she married at the Cathedral of Saint Peter in Belleville and who died in April 1998; siblings, Elsie (Louis) Holtgrave, Ralph (Katie) Schrage, Arlene (Gerhard) Peek, Alfred “Dreegen” (Alice) Schrage, Helen (Bernard) Wolters, Bernita (Alvin) Mensing, Richard (Darlene) Schrage, Paul (Judy) Schrage, and Elmer (Fran) Schrage; and brother-in-law, Roger Zimmerman.

 

Bridget is survived by her son, Travis Zimmerman of Fairview Heights and many nieces and nephews.

 

Bridget was a 1960 graduate of Mater Dei Catholic High School in Breese and later attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. She dedicated more than 30 years of her career as a hairstylist and beautician working at JCPenney, where she formed many lasting friendships with coworkers and clients alike.

 

A woman of faith, Bridget was formerly a member of St. Albert the Great Catholic Church in Fairview Heights and later became a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church following its transition. She was also an active member of the MUSIC Swing Dance Club.

 

Bridget embraced life with energy and enthusiasm. She especially enjoyed swing dancing, playing pickleball, and participating in gym activities including Zumba and aerobics.

 

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, May 21, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese with Fr. Jim Nall presiding. Interment will follow at St. Dominic-St. Augustine Cemetery in Breese.

 

Visitation will be Thursday, May 21, 2026, from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. at Moss Funeral Home in Breese.

 

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association and will be received at the visitation or by mail at Moss Funeral Home, 535 N. 5th Street, Breese, IL 62230, which is serving the family.
