n annual moment of remembrance ceremony was scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. at the September 11 Memorial Walkway of Southern Illinois in Belleville.
The Oak Brook Polo Grounds has a Healing Field open until Sunday, Sept. 13 with 2,977 flags honoring those who perished in New York, Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania.
ILLINOIS EPA RELEASES CLIMATE ACTION PLAN
The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency released the Illinois Comprehensive Climate Action Plan on Thursday.
The Illinois EPA received $340 million under the federal Climate Pollution Reduction Grant program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. According to analysis in the plan, Illinois has reduced greenhouse gas pollution by 32% since 2005.
The report said Illinois made the most progress reducing emissions in the power sector, with a 60% reduction since 2005, mostly from transitioning away from coal and using other sources of power generation.
STATE OFFERS MORE THAN $26 MILLION IN GROCERY GRANTS
State officials have announced more than $26 million in taxpayer funds are available for the Illinois Grocery Initiative.
The funding includes more than $21 million for new stores and equipment upgrades grants and $4.5 million for the grocery rescue program, which is intended to help reopen stores that closed in the last year.
LIG RESIGNATION
The Legislative Ethics Commission has agreed to accept the resignation of Legislative Inspector General Michael McCuskey, effective Sept. 30.
A news release from the LEC chairman, state Rep. Jeff Keicher, R-Sycamore, the commission will appoint an interim LIG effective Oct. 1.
McCuskey faced backlash over his handling of multiple ethics complaints in recent weeks. Keicher’s letter said the commission is committed to filling the LIG position in a timely manner.
