Alan W. Stoecklin, age 75, of Highland, passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at his home.
He was born on May 16, 1951, in Highland, a son of the late Wallace and Estelle (nee Luber) Stoecklin.
On October 22, 1976, he married Ann M. Lengermann, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland, and she survives in Highland.
Alan is also survived by his children, Craig (Jim Giesen) Stoecklin of Alexandria, VA and Tricia Stoecklin of Highland; siblings, Leann Klostermann of Breese and John (Denise) Stoecklin of Marion, IL; brother-in-law, Michael (Deb) Lengermann of Highland and sister-in-law, Ellen (Norb Friederich) Anderson of Lebanon; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Susan (Jim) Limer; brother-in-law, Bob Klostermann, and parents-in-law, Anton and Eleanor (nee Beckmann) Lengermann.
Alan’s life was defined by his deep roots in Highland, his dedicated service to his country and community, and his infectious love for sports and fellowship. Born and raised in Highland, Illinois, Alan was a lifelong resident who dedicated himself to enriching the town he loved. He graduated from St. Paul High School in 1968 before attending Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIU-E) for three and a half years, where he passionately pursued his interests in history and sports. A proud veteran, Alan honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1970 to 1976. Following his military service, he channeled his love for his hometown into a dedicated career with the United States Postal Service, serving his neighbors as a familiar and friendly letter carrier in Highland for 45 years until his retirement in 2018.
Alan’s faith and community spirit were the cornerstones of his life. As a devout member of St. Paul Catholic Church, he shared his time and talents for 25 years through the Hospitality Ministry and lifted his voice in the church choir. He took great pride in his local heritage, following in his parents’ footsteps as a member of the Helvetia Sharpshooters Society and was a familiar face at the Highland Moose Lodge 2479. One of his greatest joys was volunteering each year at the annual Kirchenfest, where he loved working alongside friends to give back to his parish.
An absolute sports enthusiast, Alan was an avid, lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan who rarely missed a game. He stayed active in the local sports scene as a long-time member of a bowling league and found peace and fulfillment spending time outdoors gardening. Above all, Alan loved doing things for his community, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, dependable service, and a welcoming smile for everyone he met.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., and on Friday, September 4, 2026, from 9:00 to 10:15 a.m., at Moss Funeral Home in Highland.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, September 4, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland, with Fr. Pat G. Jakel presiding.
Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Highland.
In lieu of flowers, plants, or other gifts, memorials may be made to Helvetia Sharpshooters Society or USO (United Services Organization) and will be received at the visitation or by mail at Moss Funeral Home, 1501 9th St., Highland, IL 62249, which is serving the family.
