Judith A. “Judy” Deien, age 80, of Carlyle and formerly of Breese, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at Memorial Hospital East in Shiloh.

 

She was born February 8, 1946, in Breese, a daughter of the late George “Mupps” Deien and Lavera, nee Rolfingsmeyer, Deien.

 

Judy is survived by her daughters, Donetta (Steve) Murphy of Bonaire and Dawn (Robert) Kendall of Granite City; grandchildren, Marissa (January) Kowalski-Young, Joseph (Kalyn) Kendall, Jacob Kendall, and Joshua Kendall; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Kenny Lammers of Breese, Carol Deien of St. Peters, Missouri, Janet Deien of Breese, and Linda Reynolds of Breese; as well as many nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by her son, Joseph Allen Deien; granddaughter, Lauren Kowalski; siblings, Jim Deien, Melvin Deien, Margie Lammers, Robert Deien, Bonita Deien in infancy, and Mary Elizabeth Deien in infancy; and nephews and a niece, Kurt Lammers, Geralyn Vogel, and Matthew Deien.

 

Judy formerly worked as a meat cutter for Haag’s Food and Poultry in Breese. She was a faithful member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Breese and the Breese American Legion Auxiliary Unit 252. Judy enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, especially bingo and reading. Above all, she cherished her family, and her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren.

 

Visitation will be held Friday, June 19, 2026, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Moss Funeral Home in Breese with Deacon Jay Fowler officiating. A graveside service will follow at St. Dominic/St. Augustine Cemetery in Breese.

 

In lieu of flowers, plants, or other gifts, memorials may be made to Hannah’s Playground or to the donor’s choice and will be received at the visitation or by mail at Moss Funeral Home, 535 N. 5th Street, Breese, IL 62230, which is serving the family.
