(The Center Square) – Restaurant operators, business owners and tipped workers have issued a statement to condemn Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson’s veto of an ordinance freezing the city’s tip credit at 24% of its minimum wage.

Illinois Restaurant Association CEO Sam Toia said the mayor’s move will eliminate jobs and reduce take-home pay for workers. The mayor said on Wednesday that he would resist any attempt to undermine workers.

EPA ISSUES E15 FUEL WAIVER

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has issued an emergency fuel waiver to allow nationwide sales of E15 gasoline and to remove federal impediments to selling E10.

The waiver is set to be in effect from May 1 to May 20, but the EPA said it could be extended.

Illinois Fuel and Retail Association CEO Nate Harris told The Center Square early last month that fuel prices would rise if Gov. J.B. Pritzker did not opt back into the federal E10 waiver.
