Goose is a 3 year old newfoundland. He is the gentlest baby and deserves so much better than he has been given in this life. In may, we went to pull dogs from one of our local animal controls and saw Goose there. He was the saddest thing and there was no way we could leave him behind, even knowing the extensive work he was going to need from us.
He weighed 67 pounds the day we took him in and should be over 100 pounds. He had green drainage and infection pouring out of both of his ears, so much so that his fur was matted with it. So we loaded him up and took him home.
Fast forward, we treated his ears for the infection and once examined by our vet-we determined that he would need resection of both of his ear canals because there was so much scar tissue from having chronically infection, untreated ears for likely his entire 3 years of life. His left ear was so bad, the eardrum and necessary parts used for hearing were completely calcified. He has been deaf in that ear for a long time presumably. The left ear was such an extensive and painful surgery, we couldn’t do both ears at once. We are hopeful the other side is not quite as bad because we know he can hear somewhat- he knows his name is GOOSE! 🪿🪿🪿
