Pope delivers video message 

Pope Leo XIV is inviting young people to share in the mission of announcing a message of hope.

The Illinois native delivered a video message from Rome to thousands of people at the Chicago White Sox’ home ballpark Saturday.

The Archdiocese of Chicago’s Mass and celebration of the recently-elected pope was held at Rate Field on the city’s South Side.

Elder abuse awareness 

Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias is highlighting the link between social isolation and financial abuse among Illinois’ senior population.

Giannoulias marked World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on Sunday by announcing a partnership with the North American Securities Administrators Association to spread knowledge about financial literacy.

Scammers frequently target older populations during vulnerable times, like health crises or after the death of a loved one.

Men busted with drugs, guns

Federal authorities have arrested two Chicago-area men on drug conspiracy charges as part of the Department of Justice’s Operation Take Back America.

James Howard, 32 of Frankfort, and 31-year-old Shantel Robinson of Oak Lawn were arrested Thursday after federal law enforcement officials found multiple kilograms of fentanyl, narcotics and approximately 25 firearms in their residences and storage unit.

The investigation is ongoing.
