Maureen Louise Papa (neé Richards), age 69, of Breese, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 7, 2024, in Glen Carbon. Born on November 24, 1955, in Highland, she was the cherished daughter of the late Maurice “Bill” and Mary Elizabeth (Markotay) Richards.
Maureen was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Barry Richards, Linda Richards, and Kent Richards (in infancy); and father-in-law, William C. Papa, Sr.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 20 years, Brian J. Papa of Breese; daughters, Kim (Randy) Voss of Aviston and Jill (Phillip) Beckmann of Breese; grandchildren, Kelsey (Jack) Thomsen, Karsyn Voss, Kendyl Voss, Klay Voss, Jillian (special friend, Travis) Beckmann, and Maryn Beckmann; great-grandchildren, Rhett, Stella, and Cohen; siblings, Sharron (Vern) Mehrmann, David Richards, and Terri (Jim) Neighbors; mother-in-law, Pat Papa; sister-in-law, Allison (T.J.) Hernandez; brothers-in-law, Bill (Patty) Papa, Jr. and Brad (Clorrisa Wells) Papa; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Maureen, affectionately known as “Mo,” by her colleagues, was a proud graduate of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing. Her vibrant personality and natural charisma made her a standout in the world of sales. An avid lover of the outdoors, Maureen found joy in, tending to her plants, visiting nurseries, and gardening. She had a passion for travel and the water, often taking trips to the ocean and enjoying fishing excursions with her beloved husband, Brian. Above all, Maureen treasured the time spent with her family and friends. Known as “Greenie” to her friends and “Grammie” to her adored grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she was always upbeat, fun-loving, and had a wonderful sense of humor. Maureen will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, doting grandmother, and adored sister. Her legacy of compassion, humor, and love will be forever cherished by all who knew and loved her.
Memorial Service will be Sunday, December 15, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Moss Funeral Home in Breese.
Visitation will be Sunday, December 15, 2024, from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Moss Funeral Home in Breese.
