Donald S. Stalcup, Sr., age 87, of Trenton, passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at his home.
He was born July 4, 1936 in Memphis, TN, a son of the late Merle and Ruth, nee Soule, Stalcup.
Donald is survived by his wife, Ann Stalcup, nee Ussery, of Trenton, whom he married May 27, 1962 in Clarksville, TN; children, Brenda Stalcup of Columbia, MO and Don (Pam) Stalcup, Jr. of Highland; grandchildren, Chelsey Schneider, Travis (Miranda) Schneider, and Brent Stalcup; siblings, Bo (Sandy) Stalcup of South Carolina and Sally (Neal) Hutchinson of Mississippi.
In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Pete (Barbara) Ussery.
Donald was a veteran of the United States Army. He dedicated many years of his life to education, retiring as a sixth-grade teacher from Trenton Elementary School. He was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Trenton, he was also an active participant in the Illinois Teachers Association. Donald contributed to the community by coaching city league youth baseball and dedicating his time to Trenton Legion baseball.
Outside the classroom, Donald found joy in various hobbies, including gardening, beekeeping, and yardwork. He was an avid supporter of local sports, particularly baseball, and passionately followed the St. Louis Cardinals, University of Tennessee, and University of Memphis teams.
In accordance to his wishes, his body was gifted to Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO., for research. There are no services scheduled at this time.
Memorials may be made to St. Louis Children’s Hospital, Clinton County Snack Pack Program, or First United Methodist Church in Trenton and will be received by mail, Moss Funeral Home, 105 S. Main St. Trenton, IL 62293, who is serving the family.
