This year’s Heritage Festival will be held at the Jefferson County Historical Society’s Historical Village from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 7.

The JCHS will celebrate the history and tradition of Jefferson County and surrounding areas by giving demonstrations of how things were done in the past. The historical society has been hosting this event since the early 1990’s. All buildings and cabins at the Historical Village will be open for tours. Food, crafts, and home goods will be available for purchase. The Village is located at 1411 N. 27th Street in Mt. Vernon, IL.

Food and food vendors will include ham and beans, pulled pork sandwiches, hotdogs, desserts, kettle corn, caramels, and honey.

Demonstrations and craft vendors will include baskets, blacksmiths, old coots’ advice, woodcarving, rope making, black powder guns, spinning, antique tractors, ham radios, Civil War doctor, soap, copper and silver jewelry, crafts, and dulcimers.

The children’s area will include giant pumpkins, stuffed pet adoption, old fashion games, and a pig racing game.

“This is the biggest JCHS event of the year, and we are looking forward to it! There are new vendors and activities waiting for our guests to explore. There is no admission fee and no charge for parking. We are very thankful for our sponsors, who help make this event possible,” said Dana Uhls, JCHS Community Relations Specialist.
