In a powerful display of collaboration, Scott Air Force Base chaplains hosted a group of Illinois pastors on Feb. 27, 2025. The group explored how spiritual care can be tailored to meet the needs of service members.

The event focused on equipping pastors with the tools and understanding needed to support the unique needs of military families, including the challenges of frequent moves, strained personal relationships, and the pressures of high-stakes missions. Through discussions and a firsthand look at some of Scott’s missions, including the Cyber Capabilities Center and KC-135 operations, church leaders gained valuable insights into the realities service members face daily.

One of the wing chaplains, U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Glenn Harris, used a quote from Gen. George C. Marshall to explain how spiritual well-being feeds into the success of the warfighter.

“The soldier’s heart, the soldier’s spirit, the soldier’s soul, are everything. Unless the soldier’s soul sustains him, he cannot be relied on and will fail himself and his commander and his country in the end.”
