Elon Musk, the tech billionaire behind X (formerly Twitter), is facing serious criticism from conservatives. Many right-wing accounts claim they lost access to premium features after voicing their disagreement with Musk’s views on immigration. It all started when a handful of prominent voices—some with over a million followers—reported losing their blue verification badges and the ability to monetize their posts.
These accounts say they were hit hard by X’s changes, with some fearing they might struggle to continue posting without the monetization tools they once had. Several accused Musk of betraying them, pointing out that he bought the platform with the promise of supporting free speech, especially for conservatives.
On Thursday, Musk tweeted a “reminder” explaining that X’s algorithm reduces the reach of users if they’re blocked or muted by other “credible” accounts. But instead of calming the situation, it sparked even more accusations of censorship, with critics saying Musk was silencing them in secret.
Among the affected was Laura Loomer, a far-right activist, who claims she lost her premium features just days after criticizing Musk for his stance on tech industry visas. She called it “retaliation” for supporting Trump’s immigration policies.
With accusations flying and a growing backlash, Musk’s commitment to free speech is now under intense scrutiny. His critics, including Andrew Torba of the far-right platform Gab, are inviting disappointed users to join their cause.
It’s clear that Musk’s latest move is stirring up some serious debate—both online and off!
