A man in China has been sentenced to death for a heartbreaking act that claimed the lives of 35 people. Fan Weiqiu, 62, reportedly drove his car into a crowd on November 11, targeting people exercising near a stadium in Zhuhai, a coastal city in Guangdong province. Another 43 were left injured in the shocking incident.

Why would someone do such a thing? Authorities say Fan was deeply upset over his recent divorce settlement. He was reportedly unhappy with how his financial assets were divided, which drove him to commit this tragic act.

The Zhuhai Intermediate People’s Court handed Fan his sentence on Friday, December 27, for “endangering public safety by dangerous means.” China’s state-run Xinhua News Agency reported the verdict.

This isn’t the first car attack to shake the nation. Earlier this month, another man in Hunan province received a suspended death sentence for driving into a group of schoolchildren, leaving 30 people—18 of them kids—injured.

These devastating incidents have left communities grieving and shocked. It’s a sobering reminder of the importance of mental health and seeking support during life’s tough moments.
