Fan Weiqiu, 62, reportedly drove his car into a crowd on November 11, targeting people exercising near a stadium in Zhuhai, a coastal city in Guangdong province. The Zhuhai Intermediate People’s Court handed Fan his sentence on Friday, December 27, for “endangering public safety by dangerous means.” China’s state-run Xinhua News Agency reported the verdict.
This isn’t the first car attack to shake the nation. Earlier this month, another man in Hunan province received a suspended death sentence for driving into a group of schoolchildren, leaving 30 people—18 of them kids—injured.
