SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. —
Barnes Jewish/Christian (BJC) Healthcare Organization staff got an all-access tour of the Scott AFB clinic and aeromedical evacuation squadron on Oct. 15, 2024. The visit included stops at physical therapy, chiropractic clinic, women’s health, operational medicine, acupuncture, simulation labs, aeromedical training facilities and more. These offices gave BJC hospital staff a chance to learn more about the different ways that the Air Force trains and equips medical personnel.
The tour aimed to strengthen the partnership between military medics and civilian hospitals by fostering relationships for knowledge exchange and practical experience. This collaboration will give military medics the opportunity to receive hands-on training, prepping them to perform effectively in high-pressure environments during deployments.
In the military, it can be difficult to have real-world training opportunities when not in a deployed environment. Through exposure to fast-paced, busy civilian hospitals, military medics can develop their skills in a controlled, yet challenging, setting, enhancing their readiness for the scenarios they may face during deployment.
This proactive approach to training and collaboration will contribute to a more robust healthcare system, benefitting all those who serve and protect.
