Diana L. Huelskamp (nee Tegenkamp), age 75, of Breese, died Thursday, October 10, 2024, at her home in Breese IL, with her family by her side. Diana was born on June 25, 1949, at her family home in Effingham, IL, the beloved daughter of the late Paul and Mary Louise (nee Dust) Tegenkamp Sr. Diana married the love of her life, John “Jack” Huelskamp on April 19, 1969, at St. Dominic Church in Breese, and he preceded her in death on September 21, 2024.
A 1967 graduate of Mater Dei High School in Breese, Diana was a registered nurse who spent a majority of her career working at Breese Nursing Home and taking care of countless numbers of geriatric residents in a long-term care setting. She wore many hats that included but not limited to a floor nurse, care plan coordinator and director of nursing. Diana was also a teacher and served as a Certified Nursing Assistant Instructor for over thirty years through SWIC Southwestern Illinois College in Belleville. She earned an associate’s degree in nursing from Kaskaskia College in 1985 and achieved a life-long dream by earning a bachelor’s degree in nursing and graduating Magna Cum Laude from McKendree University in 2003.
Diana was a member of St. Augustine’s Parish in Breese and enjoyed spending time with her family. Diana was a wonderful role-model for anyone in her orbit and was the “wind-beneath-the wings” for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed painting ceramics and sewing Christmas stockings for her family.
She is survived by her children, John (Kim) Huelskamp Jr. of Breese and Amy (Brian) Wuebbels of St. Jacob; her siblings that include her brother Dennis (Debbie) Tegenkamp of Breese, sister Donna (Larry) Root of Breese, and brother Paul (Evelyn) Tegenkamp Jr. of Keyesport; her sister-in-law, Mary Lou Hansen of Highland, brothers-in-law Kenneth Huelskamp of Bear, Delaware, Ron (Jenny) Huelskamp of Gilbert, Arizona, Danny (Sue) Huelskamp of Marine City, Michigan, Allen “Butch” Huelskamp of Breese, and sister-in-law Bonnie (Kevin) Tune of Carlyle; her six grandchildren Kourtney (Kyler) Scheer, Brooke (Jordan) Lampe, Zach Huelskamp, Lauren Wuebbels, Ashley Wuebbels, and Parker Huelskamp; and her four great-grandchildren Kayden, Kambry, Austin, and Camden. Diana also had many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and her parents, Diana was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Elizabeth Huelskamp (nee Johnson); her father-in-law Alexander Huelskamp; her step-father, Charles “Charlie” Hegger; and her brothers-in-law, Robert “Bob” (Ruby) Huelskamp, Donald “Donnie” Huelskamp, and Ed Hansen.
The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of Southern Illinois along with the staff of Fresenius Kidney Care for the excellent care provided to our mother/grandmother.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for both Diana & Jack Huelskamp will be Friday, October 18, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Breese with Fr. Chuck Tuttle presiding and Deacon Jay Fowler assisting. Interment will be Monday, October 21, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.
Visitation will be Friday, October 18, 2024, from 8:30 – 10:45 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Breese.
In lieu of flowers, plants, and other gifts, memorials may be made to Community Link, Metro East Humane Society in Highland or St. Augustine’s Parish in Breese and will be received at the visitation or by mail, Moss Funeral Home, 535 N. 5th St. Breese, IL 62230, who is serving the family.
