Melvin F. “Mel” Mueller, age 73, of Bartelso, passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in O’Fallon. Born on June 6, 1951, in Breese, Mel was the son of the late Joseph B. and Mary A. (nee Beckmann) Mueller.
Mel is survived by his children, Ryan (fiancée Rachel Pham) Mueller of San Diego, CA, and Casey Mueller of Brooklyn, NY; his siblings, Diana (Don) Schmidt of Atlanta, GA, Dan “Pup” (Mary) Mueller of Bartelso, Sharon Mueller of Atlanta, GA, Mike “Duck” (Diane “Annie”) Mueller of Bartelso, Mark Mueller of Bartelso, and Judy (Dan “Gil”) Gilbreth of Bartelso; as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
A graduate of Mater Dei High School in Breese, Mel earned an associate degree in Electrical Technology from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. He worked as an electrician at General Tire in Mt. Vernon from 1974 until his retirement in 2004. Mel loved spending time at the Mueller’s Clubhouse, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, grilling, and in recent years, keeping up with the latest news on CNN.
Mel was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Bartelso and was formerly active with the Bartelso Jaycees and the Bartelso Fire Department.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Moss Funeral Home in Germantown. A private graveside service will take place at St. Cecilia Cemetery in Bartelso.
In lieu of flowers, plants, or other gifts, memorials may be made to the Bartelso Fire Department, the American Heart Association, or Mater Dei Catholic High School. Donations will be accepted at the visitation or can be mailed to Moss Funeral Home, PO Box 117, Germantown, IL 62245, who is serving the family.
