Group sues Northwestern for discrimination 

A lawsuit is accusing Northwestern University’s Law School of discriminating against white men.

The federal complaint was filed by the group, “Faculty, Alumni and Students Opposed to Racial Preferences.” The suit claims the school violated anti-discrimination laws by hiring women and people of color over white men with more qualified credentials. 

 

Farmers market coupons available

Farmers market season is in full swing, and older adults may be able to get help buying fresh, local produce.

The Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program, administered jointly by the Illinois Department on Aging and Illinois Department of Human Services, offers income-eligible older adults access to up to $50 worth of locally grown fruits, vegetables, herbs and honey from certified farmers.

Eligible participants must be at least 60 years old and have a household income at or below 185% of the federal poverty level.

State Fair concert announced

The Illinois State Fair has announced that rising star and crossover artist Shaboozey will headline the Illinois State Fair Grandstand on Sunday, August 18.

The multi-faceted artist is carving his lane in the alternative country and hip-hop space. His smash single “A Bar Song (Tipsy),”  peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Tickets will be on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 6, through Ticketmaster. The 2024 Illinois State Fair runs from Aug. 8 through Aug. 18 in Springfield.
