The C.E. Brehm Memorial Public Library in Mt. Vernon offers a variety of classes and special presentations. Below are some of their upcoming events.

On Nov. 2 at 3 p.m. there will be a program on the basics of funeral planning by staff from Hughey Funeral Home.

On July 24, 1915 the pleasure steamer the SS Eastland rolled over while still docked. The event, which claimed at least 844 lives, ranks as one of the worst maritime disasters in American history. On Nov. 11 at 1:00 p.m. there will be a presentation on the Eastland disaster. The 45‐minute adult program features: full color, true-to-life animation of the Eastland rolling over in 1915 Chicago; three motion picture videos taken in; dozens of photographs; compelling firsthand narrative delivered by descendants of a survivor; and a brief video with ABC’s Ron Magers interviewing several survivors.

The C.E. Brehm Memorial Public Library is located at 101 S. 7th St. in Mt., Vernon, Illinois. For more information on the Library and its programs call 618- 242-6322.
