The Jefferson County Historical Society will hold their annual Candlelight Walk from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 4 at the Historical Village in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.
Visitors are invited to enjoy an evening walk by candlelight and experience what life was like before electricity. The Jefferson County Historical Village walkways will be lined with candles, and the buildings and cabins will also be lit only by candlelight. Costumed interpreters will add to the experience of a step back in time. Following the tour of the village, refreshments will be served.
Greg and Debbie Backes will provide musical entertainment by the campfire. Hay bales will be placed around the campfire for seating.
“The Candlelight Walk is one of our most popular events of the year,” said Dana Uhls, Community Relations Specialist. “It is such a welcoming tradition for the community. The Village takes on a new life when it is lit only by candles. Singing around the campfire is my favorite part. Greg and Debbie Backes are fun song leaders for the entire family. There in no charge and everyone is welcome.”
The Jefferson County Historical Village is located at 1411 North 27th Street in Mt. Vernon. For more information contact the Historical Society office at 618-246-0033.
