The City of Centralia is deeply saddened to report an act of vandalism that is believed to have occurred at Elmwood Cemetery between the night of October 16 and the morning of October 17. The incident involved damage to gravestones and other property within the cemetery premises.
The City is taking swift action to address this unfortunate incident. City officials are currently attempting to contact the owners of the cemetery gravesites and assessing the extent of the damages.
In response to this incident, the Centralia Police Department is actively investigating the matter. We urge anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in or around the cemetery during the specified time frame or who may have information related to this incident to contact the police immediately at 618-533-7602.
Residents and community members are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any unusual or suspicious activities to the police. Together, we can help maintain the safety and sanctity of our community spaces.
