Food, fun, celebrations, remembering — these will all be a part of the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Marion County, presented by Mid Am Building Supply, coming up on Saturday, October 21, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Marion County Fairgrounds in Salem. This year’s theme is the same as the National theme which is “Every Step Brings Hope.”
Food stands will be manned by several of the Relay For Life Teams, featuring nachos, cookies, pie jars, sweet treats and more, and this year several food trucks will be on hand including Thirsty Heifer, Southern Sno, Weenie Wagon and Rollin the Dough (pizza). Also, the popular cake walk will be back, so you can win some dessert, too. Come hungry! All the booths and the Survivor Reception will open at 4 p.m. Cancer survivors please RSVP to Beth Orrell at 618-292-3980 so adequate refreshments can be provided.
A variety of entertainment is being planned for all ages, including a performance by Southern Illinois Elite Tumble and Cheer and music by Joel Young. There will be fundraising raffles, a silent auction, cancer awareness and education booths, and more is still being planned.
The Marion County Relay For Life will be October 21, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with opening ceremonies at 6 p.m., including the traditional Survivor Lap & Caregiver Lap. Luminaria Ceremony will be at 7 p.m. This year $22,181 has already been turned in toward the 2023 goal of $40,000.
