Members of the Centralia Fire Protection District set up this vigil to honor those who lost their lives in the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in New York in 2001 on the anniversary of the attack. The vigil began at 7:46 a.m. Central Time. That was when the first plane hit on that tragic day. It ended at 9:28 a.m. That was the time the north tower fell. The firemen taking part were, left to right, Captain Jason Bland, Lt. Todd Williams, Engineer Kevin Molenhaur, and probationary firemen Cameron Smith, Brian Smith and Ayden Massey.

Continental Tire Mt. Vernon displayed this huge flag to remember those that lost their lives in the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. On that day, four coordinated Islamic suicide terrorist attacks were carried out against the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers and the Pentagon. The fourth plane crashed in Pennsylvania after the travelers on the plane and its crew attacked the terrorists before they could crash into its target. The attacks killed nearly 3,000 people and instigated the multi-decade global war on terror.
