Summer Reading challenges return this year to the Centralia Regional Library District from June 5 to August 11, 2023, with in-person registration happening June 5 to June 10. This year’s theme is “Find Your Voice” and there are three age categories in which readers can register: youth 0-11, teens 12-18, and adults. There will be no online or over the phone registration this year and the challenge will be done using special bingo cards.

Everyone who completes the reading challenge in any age category will receive a book of their choice to take home. The first 100 youth that complete the challenge will also receive a Monical’s Pizza coupon, all teens will be entered for a chance to win a pair of headphones, and all adults will be entered for a chance to win a $50 Visa gift card.

When registering for the challenge, readers may pick up a ticket to see the special event “All About Animals” hosted by the St. Louis Aquarium in the Monken Activity Room in June. Tickets for a second special event in August, “Sounds Like Science” by Mad Science of St. Louis, will be available for pick-up August 1.

Along with these special ticketed events, the library will be hosting free events and weekly crafts and activities all summer long. There will be a monthly story time, a local author fair, a community-produced tiny art show, karaoke nights for teens and adults, self-publishing workshops for adults, journaling workshops for teens, and zine workshops for teens and adults.
