John A. “Jack” Huelskamp Sr., age 78, of Breese, passed away Saturday, September 21, 2024, at HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in O’Fallon following a brief battle with cancer. He was born November 29, 1945, in Breese, the son of Elizabeth (nee, Johnson) and Alex Huelskamp. On April 19, 1969, Jack married the love of his life Diana Tegenkamp at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese.

 

A graduate of Central High School in Breese, Jack enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1964 and was honorably discharged in 1967. Jack was a Veteran of the Vietnam War and served his country as a field radio operator from August 1965 through September 1966.

 

Jack worked as an auto assembler for General Motors for 28 years before retiring in 1995. Jack also owned and operated a car-detailing business, “Jack’s Auto Detailing,” from 1995 to 2017.

 

Jack was a member of St. Augustine’s Parish in Breese, the Breese American Legion Post 252, and United Auto Workers Union. He enjoyed spending time with family and telling tall tales, many of which were really true. He was a friend to all and a stranger to none and enjoyed many good meals with his friends and the waitresses at PJ’s Diner Breakfast Club.

 

He is survived by his wife of 55 years; his children, John (Kim) Huelskamp, Jr. of Breese and Amy (Brian) Wuebbels of St. Jacob; his siblings, Mary Lou Hansen of St. Jacob, Kenneth (Dora “Dee”) Huelskamp of Bear, Delaware, Ron (Jenny) Huelskamp of Gilbert, Arizona, Danny (Sue) Huelskamp of Marine City, Michigan, Allen “Butch” Huelskamp of Breese, Bonnie (Kevin) Tune of Carlyle; his brother-in-law, Dennis (Debbie) Tegenkamp of Breese, Paul (Evelyn) Tegenkamp Jr. of Keyesport; his sister-in-law Donna (Larry) Root of Breese; his six grandchildren, Kourtney (Kyler) Scheer, Brooke (Jordan) Lampe, Zach Huelskamp, Lauren Wuebbels, Ashley Wuebbels, and Parker Huelskamp; his four great-grandchildren, Kayden, Kambry, Austin, and Camden; and many nieces and nephews.

 

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law, Mary (Charlie) Hegger; his father-in-law, Paul Tegenkamp Sr.; brothers, Robert “Bob” (Ruby) Huelskamp and Donald “Donnie” Huelskamp; and brother-in-law, Ed Hansen.

 

A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.

 

Memorials may be made to Community Link, Metro East Humane Society, or St. Augustine’s Parish in Breese and will be by mail, Moss Funeral Home, 535 N. 5th St. Breese, IL 62230, who is serving the family.
