SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia was recently awarded its MQSA Annual re-certification. MQSA is the national Mammography Quality Standards Act and the SSM facility has been approved by the accreditation body of MQSA.
SSM Health also holds an ACR (American College of Radiology) certificate as a Breast Center of Excellence meaning the facility is accredited in Mammography, Breast Ultrasound, Breast Ultrasound Biopsy, Stereotactic Breast Biopsy, and Breast MRI. To gain this certification the facility has undergone periodic review of their clinical images, surveyed annually by a medical physicist, and met federally developed quality standards for personnel qualifications, equipment, radiation dose, quality assurance programs, and recordkeeping and reporting. SSM Health has also undergone a mammography annual inspection conducted by the State of Illinois.
SSM Health mammography radiologists are also required to meet the standards of MQSA, be a board-certified radiologist along with 60 hours of medical education in mammography and read 240 mammograms under the direct supervision of an MQSA radiologist to start. They must also have 15 hours of breast related CME (Continuing Medical Education) every 3 years and read at least 960 mammograms in a 24-month period. The physicians that are responsible for reading and performing the SSM breast exams are all MQSA compliant and are as follows: Dr. Patrick Bennett- Mammography, Stereotactic Breast Biopsy, Ultrasound Breast Biopsy; Dr. Matthew Stadnyk-Mammography, Ultrasound Breast Biopsy, Breast MRI; Dr. Thomas Schroyer- Mammography; Dr. Matthew Hrastich- Mammography, Ultrasound Breast Biopsy; Dr. Karen Baranski-Mammography; and Dr. Robert Gresick- Mammography, Breast MRI.
