UAW strike spreads to Illinois

The UAW is expanding its strike to 38 parts and distribution centers in 20 states, including Illinois. Among the facilities joining the strike are a GM plant in Bolingbrook and a Stellantis facility in Naperville. They will join more than 12,000 other UAW workers already on strike at plants in Missouri, Michigan and Ohio.

Migrant crime on the rise

The incidents of crime involving migrants are on the increase. Two Venezuelan migrants living in a Chicago Police Department station were apparently evicted from the facility after fighting over a mattress. A police report said the men were brawling in the middle of State Street. In another incident, police report one of the migrants living at O’Hare International Airport forced his way through a TSA security checkpoint and stole a radio from a United Airlines employee.

Illinois law enforcement leaving for Illinois

Enticed by Florida’s vigorous recruitment efforts, it appears more Illinois police officers are making the move to the Sunshine State. The migration has gained momentum following the announcement by Gov. Ron DeSantis of a $5,000 bonus for officers who choose to relocate. DeSantis’ administration reports nearly 40 Illinois officers have taken advantage of the offer. Some point to the recent ban on cash bail in Illinois as another factor for the outmigration.
