The No. 2 seed Mater Dei girls soccer team beat No. 4 seed Central 2-1 in double overtime to win the regional championship at Central. Mater Dei avenged a 3-0 loss to Central during the regular season. The Knights won their first regional championship since 2019.
Mater Dei improved to 10-11-1 on the season. Central finished its season at 11-6.
Senior Ocean Reinhardt scored to put Central up 1-0 at halftime.
Mater Dei senior Sierra Brinker scored with 1:41 remaining in the game to send the game into two 10-minute overtime sessions.
Mater Dei junior Cora Meyer scored off a pass from Emma Eversgerd with 19 seconds left in the first overtime session to put the Knights up 2-1. The Knights kept that lead through the rest of the first overtime session and the second overtime session.
Emma Eversgerd had an assist for Mater Dei. Melanie Hilmes assisted on Ocean Reinhardt’s goal.
Mater Dei plays either No. 1 seed Columbia or No. 4 seed Gibault in the sectional semifinals at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Roxana.
