The Carlyle softball team celebrated Senior Day with a 4-0 win over Red Bud. Seniors Brooke Johnson and Brianna Suydam were honored before the game.
Carlyle won its fifth straight game and moved to 16-4 overall and 7-1 in the Cahokia Conference Illinois Division. Red Bud dropped to 16-9 overall and 6-2 in the Cahokia Conference Illinois Division.
Carlyle scored a run in the first inning, two runs in the third inning and one run in the sixth inning.
Sophomore Emma Meyer threw a complete game four-hitter with 14 strikeouts and one walk. Meyer also had some great defense behind her. Carlyle didn’t commit an error. Freshman Ella Rolfingsmeyer made three catches in center field. Sophomore Isabella Picou made a great play at second base for the first out of the seventh inning. Freshman Avery Eversgerd caught a ball in right field for the second out of the seventh inning. Sophomore catcher Carlie Wademan threw a runner out trying to steal third base in a strike-them-out, throw-them-out in the sixth inning.
Freshman Sophia Hoffmann reached base four times and had a hit and scored three runs. Freshman Avery Eversgerd reached base four times and had two hits and one run scored. Sophomore Emma Meyer reached base twice and had a hit and an RBI. Sophomore Carlie Wademan had two RBIs. Freshman Raelyn Harris had a sacrifice fly in the third inning.
Carlyle plays at Red Bud at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
