The Carlyle Mudcats 14U baseball team dropped to 1-2 on the season after a 4-2 loss to Jefferson County during the winner’s bracket semifinals of the 2022 Carlyle Mudcat Invitational at Carlyle City Park.
Jefferson County took a 1-0 lead with a run in the bottom of the first inning. The Mudcats scored a run in the top of the second inning to tie the game 1-1. Drew Lueking walked to start the top of the second inning. He stole second base. With two outs, Timothy Schilbe singled to Drew Lueking to tie the game 1-1. Jefferson County scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 4-1 lead. The Mudcats scored one run in the top of the seventh inning. Blake Hanke singled with one out. Ethan Brinkmann reached on an error to put runners on first and second. Drew Lueking tripled. Blake Hanke scored on the hit, but Ethan Brinkmann was thrown out at home.
Landyn Mitchell had a hit for the Mudcats. Blake Hanke had a hit and scored a run. Drew Lueking tripled and had an RBI. Timothy Schilbe had a hit and an RBI. Grayson Strader reached base twice and had a hit.
Evan Beal pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on six hits with three strikeouts. Jon Schmitt pitched 1 1/3 innings, allowing no runs on one hit with one strikeout.
The Mudcats play in the third-place game at 2 p.m. Sunday.
