The Carlyle baseball team dropped to 0-4 overall and 0-1 in the Cahokia Conference Illinois Division with a 5-3 loss to Chester.
Chester scored two runs in the first inning and one run in the fourth inning to take a 3-0 lead. Carlyle scored a run in the bottom of the fourth inning to get within 3-1. Chester scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 5-1 lead. Carlyle scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning and a run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Hayden Hoffmann had two hits for the Indians. Bryce Hunt had a hit and an RBI. Lukas Ellis scored two runs. Luke Ellis scored one run.
Hayden Hoffmann pitched four innings and allowed three runs — two earned — on six hits with two strikeouts and one walk. Dakota Rakers pitched two innings, allowing two runs on four hits with two strikeouts. Matthew Guthrie pitched one inning, allowing no runs on one hit.
Carlyle is scheduled to play at Nashville on Wednesday.
