The Aviston volleyball team took third place in the Class M state tournament at Nashville with a 27-25, 22-25, 15-7 win over Johnston City.
It was the third state trophy won by an Aviston girls team this year. The Aviston girls cross country team placed fourth at the Class S state meet. The Aviston girls basketball team won the Class M state championship.
Adalyn Morris, Alyse Morris, Lexi Morris and Reagan Napovanice have been a part of all three state teams.
With the third set tied 2-2, Reagan Napovanice had four straight service points to put the Eagles up 6-2. Aviston took a 9-3 lead after two Adalyn Morris service points. Leading 11-6, Aviston went on a 3-0 run to take a 14-6 following two straight Claire Von Bokel service points.
Aviston was down 17-10 in the opening set. The Eagles went on a 5-1 run to get within 18-15 following an Alyse Morris service point. Johnston City opened a 21-16 lead. Aviston went on a 5-2 run to get within 23-21 following back-to-back Claire Von Bokel kills. Johnston City took a 24-21 lead. Aviston scored three straight points and tied the set 24-24 after two straight Lexi Morris service points. Johnston City took a 25-24 lead. Aviston scored the final three points and won the set on two straight Claire Von Bokel service points.
Johnston City had a 17-11 lead in the second set. Aviston scored three straight points to get within 17-14 following two straight Lexi Morris service points. Aviston got within 18-16 on a Claire Von Bokel service point. Johnston City took a 20-16 lead. Aviston got within 20-18 on an Alyse Morris service point. Johnston City led 21-18 before Aviston scored two straight points to get within 21-20 following a Reagan Napovanice service point. Johnston City scored three straight points to take a 24-20 lead. Aviston scored two straight points to get within 24-22 on an Adalyn Morris service point. Johnston City won the next point to win the set.
