The Carlyle softball team moved to 2-0 on the season with a 3-2 victory over Greenville.
The game was tied 2-2 going into the bottom of the seventh inning. Sophia Hoffmann reached first base on an error to start the bottom of the seventh. With two outs and Hoffmann on third base, Carlie Wademan singled to score Hoffmann with the winning run.
Carlyle scored a run in the third inning and run in the fourth inning to take a 2-0 lead. Hoffmann reached second base on an error and scored on an error in the third inning to put the Indians up 1-0. Avery Eversgerd had an RBI single to score Brianna Suydam in the fourth inning to put the Indians up 2-0. Greenville’s Macy Jett hit a two-out, two-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to tie the game 2-2.
Emma Meyer pitched seven innings for the Indians, allowing two runs on six hits with 11 strikeouts and one walk.
Sophia Hoffmann reached base three times, finishing with one hit and two runs scored. Hoffmann has scored four of the Indians’ six runs so far this season. Avery Eversgerd had a hit and an RBI. Carlie Wademan had two hits and one RBI. Ella Rolfingsmeyer had two hits. Sydnee Smith had a hit. Brianna Suydam had a hit and scored a run.
Carlyle plays on Wednesday at New Athens.
