The St. Rose volleyball team won the Class S Region 10 Tournament with a 25-18, 25-13 win over St. Mary’s School (Edwardsville) in the championship match.
St. Rose improved to 10-8 on the season.
St. Rose jumped to a 6-1 lead in the opening set after two straight Lily Butler aces. St. Mary’s got within 7-6 before St. Rose scored three straight points to take a 10-6 lead following a Brooke Harrison kill. St. Rose opened a 14-7 lead after three straight Brooke Harrison service points. St. Mary’s got within 14-9 before St. Rose took a 16-10 lead following two straight Jacey Robke service points. St. Mary’s went on a 4-0 run to get within 16-14. St. Rose went on a 5-0 run to take a 21-14 lead following four straight Mabry Benhoff service points. St. Mary’s went on a 4-0 run to get within 21-18. St. Rose went on a 4-0 run to end the set and won the set on three straight Lily Butler service points.
St. Rose took a 10-4 lead in the second set after four straight Laney Tebbe service points. St. Mary’s went on a 5-0 run to get within 10-9. St. Rose led 12-10 and went on an 11-0 run to take a 23-10 lead. Brooke Harrison had 10 straight service points to finish the run. St. Mary’s scored three straight points to get within 23-13 before St. Rose scored two straight points and won the match on a Jacey Robke service point.
This was the second regional won by a St. Rose girls sport this year. The girls basketball team also won a regional and went on to win the Class S state championship.
St. Rose advances to the Class S state tournament in Herrin on Saturday, March 26. St. Rose plays at 11 a.m. against the winner of Region 1.
