The Carlyle softball team opened its season with a 3-2 win over Altamont.
Carlyle had a 3-1 lead going into the top of the seventh inning. Peyton Osteen had an RBI single to get Altamont within 3-2. With two outs, Grace Lemke doubled. The Indians threw Osteen out at home plate for the final out of the game.
Carlyle took a 1-0 lead with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Sophia Hoffmann had a leadoff double. Carlie Wademan singled with two outs to score Hoffmann.
Altamont scored an unearned run in the top of the third inning to tie the game 1-1. Carlyle took a 2-1 lead with a run in the bottom of the third inning. Sophia Hoffmann reached on a fielder’s choice and stole second and third base. Hoffmann was bunted home by Avery Eversgerd.
Carlyle scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 3-1 lead. Carlie Wademan had a one-out single. With two outs, Sydnee Smith singled to score courtesy runner Brooke Johnson.
Avery Eversgerd pitched six innings, allowing one unearned run on no hits with 12 strikeouts and four walks. Emma Meyer pitched the seventh inning, allowing one run on two hits.
Sophia Hoffmann doubled and scored two runs. Carlie Wademan had two hits and one RBI. Sydnee Smith had a hit and an RBI. Ella Rolfingsmeyer and Isabella Picou both had hits. Brooke Johnson scored a run.
Carlyle hosts Odin on Friday.
