The Carlyle High School baseball team opened its season with a 13-1, five-inning loss to Father McGivney. Father McGivney scored five runs in the second inning and five runs in the third inning to take a 10-0 lead. The Griffins scored two runs in the fourth inning to take a 12-0 lead. Carlyle scored one run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Father McGivney scored one run in the top of the fifth inning.
Carlyle committed five errors in the loss.
The Indians were outhit 12-4. Blake Herzing doubled and scored a run for Carlyle. Kyle Eversgerd had a hit and an RBI. Matthew Guthrie and Lukas Ellis both had hits.
Carlyle hosts Odin/Patoka/Sandoval at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
