The No. 1 seed Central boys basketball moved to 28-5 on the season with a 59-24 win over No. 2 seed Massac County during the semifinals Class 2A Sectional at Carterville.
Central led 10-7 after the first quarter. The Cougars outscored the Patriots 25-7 in the second quarter to take a 35-14 into halftime. Leading 16-13, Central went on a 19-1 run to end the first half.
Central led 53-20 going into the fourth quarter. The fourth quarter was played with a running clock.
Senior Brady Moore led the Cougars with 22 points. Senior Luke Strubhart had 14 points. Senior Myles Kampwerth and junior Cody Dickshot both had six points each. Senior Dalton Boruff had five points. Sophomore Mason Shubert had four points. Senior Mason Hamon had two points.
The Cougars play for the sectional championship at 7 p.m. Friday against either No. 1 seed Murphysboro or No. 2 seed Nashville. Murphysboro and Nashville play at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Carterville.
