Glenn Gebke of Germantown has asked the Clinton County Board to pass an ordinance about preserving Second Amendment rights. This has been turned over to the County Board’s Law Enforcement Committee.

Mr. Gebke was at a meeting where he brought this up. Then he gave the County Board a sample ordinance from Newton County, Missouri. He also mentioned that Rafael Him, a former board member from New Baden, proposed in 2018 that Clinton County should be a sanctuary county for Second Amendment rights.

Gebke said the ordinance from Missouri would help strengthen anything already on the books in Clinton County like what was brought up by Him.

In February, the Newton County Missouri Commission enacted a Second Amendment Preservation Act. This Act moves to protect the rights of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms, and restricts any enactment of laws, orders, or dictates from local or federal authorities that would seek to infringe upon that right.
