(New Baden) 03/14 – The candidates for local office in the Village of New Baden gathered tonight for a voters’ forum at the American Legion in New Baden. The candidates and around 40 members of the public were on hand to talk about everything from business development to potholes.
Running for the office of village trustee is Bob Oster, Rebecca Schumacher, Chris Locke and Jason Pollack. Two others are running but were unable to be at the forum… there are three open positions up for election.
Jason Pollack is the one candidate that caught our attention, he was able to convey his message with ease and spoke about what matters. Jason has been highly active in reaching out to voters. The biggest part we like about Jason Pollack is that he is for cutting wasteful spending and cutting taxes. Jason stressed the need for aggressive marketing of the villages TIF (Tax Increment Finance) Districts to grow the city and to attract new business.
Bob Oster, an incumbent spoke about the need for updated water meters throughout the village at an estimated cost to taxpayers of $414,000, although the bid shows much higher price. He did indicate that cheaper options might be available. New Baden has roughly 1,500 water meters with 800 of them being over 20 years old.
Rebecca Schumacher asked for votes saying she wants to get more involved in local government and take steps to attract more industry and business to the area.
Chris Locke said if elected he would work on developing a more comprehensive plan and stated he would like to concentrate in the areas of public safety, public works and finance.
