(NEW BADEN) 03/13 – the New Baden Village Board Finance Committee met yesterday and will recommend to the full board on Monday the transfer of $15,000 from the general fund to the parks and recreation fund. This transfer will help cover an expected shortfall due to increases such as an increase in mowing costs of the village park which have increased from $400.00 per cut to $850.00 per cut with an estimated 38 cuts per year.
According to the village the parks and recreation fund is in a bit better shape than it otherwise would be in due to the fact that the pool did not operate last year due to Covid-19 but did receive funding which can be rolled over into this operating year.
The board is also expected to take up the issue of granting the full board the authority to divide the excise tax as needed. That duty is currently designated to the park board which is not currently active.
Additionally, the finance committee discussed the anticipated federal government bailout aid funding through the recently signed Federal Recovery Act. Although the village has no idea at this time how much funding they might receive, they anticipate using much of the funding for water and sewer upgrades and crack and pothole repairs on village roadways. Water meters 20 years and older will be suggested for priority replacement under the villages plan to convert to all digital water meters. Which will cost the citizens near $500,000.
The full New Baden Village board will meet Monday evening 3/15/2021.
