New Baden’s Park Boosters are going to rename the gazebo and the area around it in the community park to recognize military service veterans. The village board gave its okay for the Boosters to do this.
The Boosters are raising money to have a concrete monument and pavers put in around the gazebo to recognize the different branches of the armed forces. The monument will be located south of the gazebo in the area where the sidewalk splits.
Jeff Stroot from the Park Boosters met with the village board twice to get the details for this project ironed out and approved. This is a way for the village to acknowledge the sacrifices made by our country’s military veterans.
The official name of the area around the gazebo will be New Baden Veterans Memorial Park. Signs there will be used to call attention to it.
The Boosters have some events coming up that Stroot told the board about including a clean-up day in April then a big softball tournament in June being put on with the help of the Trenton Park Boosters group. This tournament sponsored by the US Softball Association had been held in Trenton before but there are not enough ball diamonds there now so New Baden’s park will be part of it.
There will be 45 games played in three days and concessions on sale during the tournament. Public Works Commissioner Ron Renth is looking into making improvements to the lights in the park so it is ready in time for the tournament.
