Women who are expecting to have children in the near future may wish to consider register for classes offered by the St. Joseph’s Hospital Women and Infants Center in Breese which recently announced its class schedule for 2021.
Classes include prepared childbirth, getting to know your newborn and breastfeeding plus other education about the amenities and quality care at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
Classes are taught by a registered nurse and a certified lactation counselor from St. Joseph’s Women and Infants Center and are open to any mom-to-be and their support person. It is recommended moms-to-be take classes closest to their due date.
The next series of three classes each are set for Saturday, February 20 with prepared childbirth from 9 a.m. until noon, then breastfeeding from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. and getting to know your newborn from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Using the same schedule, these classes will also be offered on March 20 and April 17 then through the remainder of the year on the third Saturday of the month except in December when they are scheduled for the 12th, the second Sunday.
“The overall goal for all of our prenatal education programs is to make sure moms and families are as prepared as they can be for the delivery, as well as taking their baby home,” shared Serra Morton, director of the women and infants center. “We invite all expectant mothers and support persons to attend our educational classes.”
Morton also noted that all COVID-19 safety precautions are followed for the classes which are kept to limited numbers, socially distanced and require masks.
